Volunteering
Volunteer Groups of 5 to 15 People
Thank you for your interest in the Atlanta Children’s Shelter!
- Orientation is scheduled for the first 15 minutes of your groups visit. This will include information about our mission, an overview of homelessness in Atlanta and a tour of the shelter. There is always free, gated and covered parking on site.
- Peak hours for early childcare volunteers are 9:00am – 12 noon and 3:00pm – 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. Minimum volunteer time is 1 hour (including the 15-minute orientation).
- There is nothing to bring or prepare. Trained staff teachers lead the class though developmentally appropriate curriculum. Volunteers simply spend invaluable one on one time with the children during the activities.
- We do not have volunteer opportunities on weekends, evenings or major holidays.
- You must be at least nine years old to volunteer at the shelter. All group volunteers between the ages of nine and eighteen must be accompanied by at least one chaperone.
- Completion of the volunteer application is mandatory for all shelter volunteers. Use the attached Volunteer Application (PDF) and Volunteer Service Agreement (PDF). Once you have filled out the application, bring it with you to orientation or fax it to the shelter at 404-892-8947.
- Group volunteer dates are by appointment only and we can accommodate up to fifteen people including chaperones.
- Groups should contact Rachel Hanthorn-Kolis, Resource Development Coordinator at 404-892-3713 x20 or rachel@acsatl.org with the date(s) on which they are interested in volunteering at the shelter. Groups will be asked to submit date (s) via email for final approval.
